Same-Day Dental Crowns with CAD/CAM Technology at Bansal Family Dentistry

Bansal Family Dentistry uses CAD/CAM technology to design and mill dental crowns in a single visit. No temporaries, no second appointments — just a permanent crown the same day.

What Are Same-Day Crowns?

Traditionally, getting a dental crown required two appointments stretched over two to three weeks. At your first visit, the tooth was prepared and an impression was taken; you’d leave with a temporary crown while a dental lab fabricated the permanent one. Two weeks later, you’d return to have the real crown cemented in place.

Same-day crowns change this entirely. Using CAD/CAM technology (Computer-Aided Design / Computer-Aided Manufacturing), we can design and mill a permanent ceramic crown right in our office — in a single appointment.

How CAD/CAM Crown Technology Works

The process at Bansal Family Dentistry is straightforward and surprisingly efficient:

  1. Digital scanning — Instead of messy impressions, we take precise digital scans of your tooth using a 3D intraoral camera. This creates a detailed digital model in minutes.
  2. Computer-aided design — Our software uses the scan to design a crown that fits your tooth anatomy perfectly, matching the colour and shape of your surrounding teeth.
  3. In-office milling — A milling machine carves your crown from a solid block of high-quality ceramic material. This takes approximately 15–20 minutes.
  4. Placement — The crown is checked for fit and colour, then permanently bonded to your tooth — all in one visit.

Advantages of CAD/CAM Same-Day Crowns

  • One appointment — No return visit, no time off work twice
  • No temporary crown — Temporaries can fall off, cause sensitivity, and look obvious. With same-day crowns, you skip this step entirely
  • Digital precision — 3D scanning is often more accurate than traditional impressions, meaning a better fit
  • High-quality ceramic material — The CEREC-style ceramic used is durable, natural-looking, and metal-free
  • Immediate results — You walk in with a damaged tooth and leave with a restored, permanent smile

When Is a Crown Needed?

Dental crowns are recommended in a number of situations:

  • A tooth with a large cavity that can’t be adequately restored with a filling
  • A cracked or broken tooth
  • A tooth that has undergone root canal treatment (which weakens the tooth structure)
  • A tooth that is severely worn down
  • To anchor a dental bridge
  • To cover a dental implant
  • For cosmetic improvement of a misshapen or severely discoloured tooth

How Long Do CAD/CAM Crowns Last?

With proper care, ceramic CAD/CAM crowns last 10–15 years or more — comparable to laboratory-made crowns. The key factors are:

  • Brushing and flossing daily
  • Regular dental check-ups (every 6 months)
  • Avoiding chewing very hard foods directly on the crown
  • Wearing a night guard if you grind your teeth

Are Same-Day Crowns Covered by Insurance?

Same-day CAD/CAM crowns are covered by most dental insurance plans that cover crowns, at the same rate as lab-fabricated crowns. Coverage typically ranges from 50–80% depending on your plan. CDCP also covers crowns on eligible teeth. We’ll verify your coverage before your appointment.
