Root Canal Treatment in Malton, Mississauga — Comfortable, Effective, and Tooth-Saving
Root canal. For many patients, these two words bring anxiety — but the reality is that modern root canal treatment is no more uncomfortable than getting a filling. In fact, its purpose is to relieve the intense pain caused by an infected or inflamed tooth pulp, and it often provides immediate relief.
At Bansal Family Dentistry in Mississauga, we make root canal treatment as comfortable as possible, walking you through every step so you know exactly what to expect.
What Is a Root Canal?
Inside every tooth is a soft tissue called the pulp, which contains nerves and blood vessels. When the pulp becomes infected — due to deep decay, a cracked tooth, or repeated dental procedures — it can cause significant pain and, if left untreated, can spread the infection to surrounding tissue and bone.
A root canal removes the infected pulp, cleans and disinfects the root canals, and seals the tooth to prevent further infection.
Signs You May Need a Root Canal
- Persistent, severe tooth pain — especially when chewing or applying pressure
- Prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold that doesn’t fade
- Darkening or discolouration of the tooth
- Swelling or tenderness in the nearby gums
- A persistent pimple or bump on the gums near the affected tooth
What to Expect During Treatment
- Create a small opening in the top of the tooth to access the pulp chamber
- Remove the infected or inflamed pulp
- Clean and shape the root canals
- Fill and seal the canals with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha
- Place a temporary filling — a crown is typically placed at a follow-up visit
Most patients are comfortable enough to return to normal activities the next day.
